Easy zipping by dividing

Zipping of traffic streams often result in irritation of car drivers or even traffic delay. Car drivers give their own interpretation to acceptable and unacceptable behavior in traffic. This behavior results in negative effects on road safety and capacity.

TEKSTKAR has developed the ‘Easy Zipping by Dividing system’, to simplify the zipping actions on three- or more lane roads. This will positively affect road safety and congestion. In stead of entering traffic from the left lane on the middle lane, traffic on the middle lane divides as well to the left lane as to the right lane. After this dividing action traffic that nears the closed lane can easily flow to the free middle lane.

Because the right lane contains more trucks, the distance between vehicles is larger, so it’s easier to enter on the right lane. Because of more entering space, ‘Easy Zipping by Dividing’ has a positive influence on capacity. An evaluated pilot of Rijkswaterstaat in the Netherlands not only shows positive effects on capacity, but also shows positive reaction of car drivers. They understand ‘Easy Zipping by Dividing’, as a safer manner of zipping then the traditional way.
